About The Olympiad

The National Gifted Olympiad (NGO) is an integrated national ecosystem comprising two tracks: the Research Track (Ibdaa) and the Scientific Track (NSMO). It aims to identify gifted middle and high school students, develop their scientific and research capabilities, and prepare them to compete in leading international olympiads and science fairs.

 

The Olympiad offers a progressive journey that begins with joining one or both tracks, followed by assessments, training, and qualification, ultimately preparing students to represent Saudi Arabia in regional and international competitions.

Research Track – Ibdaa

The Research Track focuses on developing students’ scientific research and innovation skills through supporting the development of scientific projects across 22 fields and preparing outstanding students to participate in the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). It targets middle and high school students aged 11–20, who can register through Mawhiba website via the provided link.

 

Scientific Project:

A scientific project is a structured study of a specific problem, guided by established scientific principles. It involves formulating questions, applying scientific methods, conducting experiments, and analyzing and validating results. In some cases, the project may lead to an innovative engineering design that reflects creativity and originality.

Participation Requirements

 

  1. Each student is allowed to participate with only one project. Projects must be individual; group submissions will not be accepted or registered. 

  1. The same project idea cannot be submitted by more than one student. If this occurs, the participation of both students will be canceled. 

  1. Participants must complete all registration phases, including entering personal information, providing detailed project information, uploading scientific project files, submitting bank account details, and printing the the Research Track (Ibdaa) badge to attend the central exhibitions, and the track Science and Engineering Fair if qualified. 

  1. When filling out the project information, the participant must write the project summary comprehensively with all the brief elements as the electronic arbitration depends on the summary and plan of the project registered on Mawhiba website. 

  1. The projects that did not fully record project information in the specified time are excluded. 

  1. The Executive Committee has the right to exclude projects in which the project title and summary do not match. 

  1. The Executive Committee has the right to exclude projects that do not have basic scientific information in the project summary. 

  1. The Executive Committee has the right to exclude the participant who has other competitions/events that coincide with any stage of the Research Track (Ibdaa), and affect their participation in accordance with the rules, regulations and obligations contained in the framework. 

  1. That the participation is within the allowable fields of Research Track (Ibdaa), where the project will be judged according to the participant's choice of the field. The participant is not allowed to change the field after the project is judged. 

  1. That the participation is an original and unprecedented work and allowed if it is a further development of previous work. It must be a personal effort of the participant, bearing in mind that any participation in the electronic arbitration stage or any stage of Research Track (Ibdaa) will be excluded if it is discovered that the work is reproduced or incomplete. 

  1.  It is not possible to change the project supervisor after registering his name on “Mawhiba" website, and any supervisor who meets the criteria has the right to supervise more than two projects as a maximum. “Supervisor Selection Controls" 

  1.  Commitment to scientific ethics controls in conducting experiments and implementing the project, and adherence to safety and security controls and instructions for the presentation of the project.  “Scientific Ethics"  

  1. Fill out the forms required for the project according to its field, noting that there are mandatory forms for all projects, and no participation will be accepted without filling out the forms 

  1. If there is an engineering model, the specified measurements must be adhered to: (The maximum length is 50 cm, the width is 40 cm, the height is 20 cm). A width greater than these measurements will not be allowed, and a video clip and photographs of the engineering product can be displayed.  

  1. Preparing the project display board as shown on Mawhiba website, as well as preparing the project code when starting the project and writing the project plan and summary, as shown on Mawhiba site.  

  1. If the project is a continuation of the past year, the following must be adhered to: 

  • Clearly inform the judge during the judging interview at the Central Exhibitions and the Track’s Science and Engineering Fair that the project is a continuation from the previous year. 

  • Complete Form No. (7), available on Mawhiba website, and include it on the project display board for this year. 

  • Only include the newly developed portion of the project in both the project display board and the project summary, without detailing the procedures from the previous year. 

Volunteer Judging

Volunteer judging involves the assessment of scientific research projects submitted to the Research Track (Ibdaa) by volunteer experts, specialists, and academics with expertise in the project’s respective field. Each project is evaluated based on established scientific criteria. 

Scientific Track – NSMO

The Scientific Track focuses on identifying gifted students and developing their knowledge and skills across science and mathematics, preparing them to compete in international Science Olympiads as members of Saudi national science teams.    

 

It aims at middle and high school students, who can register through their school coordinators.

Registration Period

Registration for the National Gifted Olympiad, Research Track (Ibdaa) is open from August 20 to September 30.

Research Track (Ibdaa) Registration Requirements

 

 

  1. Participants must be Saudi nationals, enrolled in middle or high school, and between 11 and 20 years old.
  2. Participants must register for Ibdaa through the track’s online form. Projects that have not been registered through the form will not be accepted.
  3. Students across all Saudi schools are eligible to participate. The Executive Committee reserves the right to disqualify any participant if any information provided in their registration details is found to be inaccurate.
  4. Participants must select a project supervisor in accordance with the specified guidelines. If any of these guidelines are not met, the supervisor will not be approved. Supervising a project does not entitle the supervisor to any financial rights or compensation if the project wins at any stage of the Research Track (Ibdaa).

 

Participants are required to attend in person on all days of the qualification and training programs, the central fairs, and the National Gifted Olympiad Finals. The Executive Committee reserves the right to disqualify participants who fail to meet the attendance requirements.

Participants must review and comply with all Research Track (Ibdaa) guidelines, regulations, and requirements published on the Mawhiba website and approved by the Executive Committee.

Key Information for Participants

Participants must complete the required forms for their respective fields, nsuring that all dates are accurately recorded using the Gregorian calendar and that all required signatures are included. The following requirements must also be observed:

  1. Projects involving animals: Experiments must be conducted in an appropriate environment and limited to observing and monitoring animal behavior. All activities must safeguard the animal from direct impact, harm, or risk and adhere to applicable regulations in Saudi Arabia.
  2. Projects involving hazardous or internationally prohibited materials: The participant’s role must be limited to observation and monitoring. International safety and security requirements must be strictly followed, and the work must be conducted under the supervision of a qualified academic or scientific supervisor specialized in the relevant field, in accordance with applicable regulations in Saudi Arabia.

3.     Projects involving human participants, such as distributing questionnaires:

General questionnaires: These are used to assess the effectiveness of a project without collecting personal data or personal opinions. Participants are not required to provide their names or their written consent.

 

Questionnaires targeting a specific group based on factors such as age, gender, or occupation require a written consent, in addition to completing Form No. 4, available on Mawhiba website, and obtaining a consent’s form from each participant. For individuals under the age of 18, a parental or guardian consent is required. For individuals residing in care facilities affiliated with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD), approval must be obtained from the authorized person.

 

4Participants receive a direct feedback on their projects from the judges at the central fairs and the National Gifted Olympiad Finals, through questions and discussions conducted during the judging interview only. This feedback is not available through either the Ministry of Education or Mawhiba.

 

 

5.      Judging results are final and are not subject to discussion or appeal.
